Rector Major visits Great Britain

The Salesians in Great Britain were privileged to have their Superior General (Rector Major), Fr Pascual Chavez, to preach the annual province retreat during Easter week 2006 (April 16th to 21st). Salesians with the Rector Major at Hothorpe.

The Celebration Cake
On 4th March 2006 there was a Mass and Buffet in Thornleigh House, Bolton, to celebrate the Ruby Ordination Jubilee of Fr Tony Bailey.
The cake, shown above, combined the symbols of two of Fr Tony's great passions, his work with Don Bosco Publications, and his favourite football team - Chelsea!

Our Provincial, Fr Michael Winstanley, was invited by the Salesian community of Ratisbonne, Jerusalem, to preach their annual retreat from 22nd to 29th January 2006. The fact that the Rector of this House of Studies is Fr Francis Preston may have had something to do with it.

Fr Chris McMahon SDB, who died in South Africa on 26th November 2005, was born in Bolton and was a pupil at Thornleigh Salesian College.

Visit to Rome and Turin - New Year 2005

Immediately after Christmas, our Director of Novices, Fr John Dickson assisted by Fr Andrew Ebrahim, took our novices on a memorable pilgrimage to the headquarters of our Salesian Congregation and the birthplace of our founder. They stayed at the Italian novitiate houses of Genzano, just south of Rome, and Pinerolo, south west of Turin.

Over the past three years Fr Graham Forristalle has been studying for a Masters degree in Christian Spirituality, while working as Vice Rector at Farnborough and more recently playing a full part in the youth retreat team at Savio House.

Sir Gus O'Donnell, our newest (if not our only) Salesian Knight of the Realm, held a reception for family and friends in the Cabinet Office in Whitehall on Friday 25 November.
