Thornleigh Student Council

Last Friday, a group of 8 representatives from the Thornleigh Student Council went to Savio House in Bollington for a leadership weekend. Present at the event were representatives from the six Salesian schools in England.
Students were able to share good practise and learn from the experience of students in the other schools as well as making new friends.

BOVA goes to Rome

From 10th to 12th April 2011 there was a meeting in Rome for those organising volunteers to work overseas in a Salesian missionary spirit. There were representatives from Australia, Austria, Czech Republic, Great Britain, Ireland, Poland and the USA.

It has been an exciting year at Savio so far. With a completely new team (except for Fr Bernard and Fr Graham) the want and need for development has really taken off. Salesians at Romero Lecture and March for the Alternative

Today marks the thirty first anniversary of the martyrdom of Oscar Romero, the archbishop of El Salvador. He was shot dead while saying Mass for speaking out on behalf of the poor and oppressed against a brutal regime.

Church School Awards

2010-11 marked the first year of the Church School Awards. Schools with a religious character in England and Wales were invited to submit an application stating ways in which they contributed to the wider community, locally, nationally and internationally, together with an account of the work of the RE Department.

Salesians Interning for Youth Dignity with Million Minutes

Christine Sterlini and Chris Knowles are currently interning for a new Catholic Charity devoted to hearing the voice of young people. Million Minutes launched on Don Bosco day this year and so far has 385,920 pounds (and minutes of silence) pledged to go into funding projects to help empower young people.

BEST DAY EVER FOR BATTERSEA OLD SALESIANS FC
On Saturday, 19th March 2011, the Battersea OSFC 1st XI won the AFA Surrey/Kent Senior Cup Final.
Also the 3rd XI won the AFA Junior Cup Final - the most successful day in the Club's history.

Salesian Students Unite

Organised by Fr James Gallagher SDB and Mr Kevin Regan, the 7th Annual Salesian Student Leadership Gathering took place at Savio House in March 2011.
The continued success of these events was evident in the presence of fifty three students accompanied by their teachers. This was the largest gathering to date.
