July is month of festivals, fun and (hopefully) sun. Just in case it rains, you can keep the young people in your life occupied by taking a look at our selection of children's books, including some activity books. Or treat yourself to a good read while relaxing in the sun.

Savio Volunteers 2022-23

For 2022-23, Savio House will have 5 volunteers on its team, taking their total up to 12 people in their community from 10 different countries.

Here is a little bit about each of the volunteers in their own words:

My name is Bettina, I come from Budapest, Hungary.

I like hiking and cycling. Every year, I cycle around Lake Balaton with my friends. I like cooking and baking. I like to read in my free time and my favourite books are Harry Potter.

I met the Salesian Sisters when I was 15, and I felt at home with the Salesian Spirit. So, I started to go to the Oratory in Budapest. After a year, I became a Salesian Animator. I participated in every summer oratory where I acted as a group leader. I learned about the educational method of Don Bosco through the Salesians. I am hoping that my time at Savio House, will give me the opportunity to know myself better.

Hi, My name is Natia. I am from Georgia. Georgia is a small and very beautiful country.

I like a variety of things. I like reading, studying, watching movies, spending time with people, sports, learning new things. I also love to dance.

A met the Salesians through a representative of the Catholic Youth Centre of Georgia. My brother and Fr Michal Jach, were in Poland on a business trip. There they received an offer that people from Georgia could also participate and become volunteers. I have known Fr Michal for a long time, and he told me about Savio House.

I'm Noa, from Barcelona in Spain

Last year has been kind of stressful for me because of my final exams, so I thought it would be good to take a gap year to relax. I like spending my time watching TV shows and films, reading and being with my best friends. On Saturdays I like to go to "Esplai", which is similar to the Scouts. So, I like to spend time with children and Young People. I love being outside, especially near to the sea.

I know Savio House, thanks to my cousin, Laia, who was a volunteer in 2015-16. She found Savio House because she went to a Salesian High School.

Hi, I am Ondrej, and I am from Bratislava, in Slovakia.

I enjoy sports, and walking. I have a great faith and will often help in my parish with my friends. I enjoy the TV show Top Gear and have a large interest in fast cars. I have a mechanical engineering degree.

I met the Salesians, while I was hiking, and met with the director of DOMKA (Salesian Youth Ministry organisation in Slovakia). She offered the opportunity to go to Savio House to learn English and work with Young People.

Hi, I am Sophia, I am from a small city near Nuremburg in Bavaria.

In my spare time I like to do gymnastics. I have also taken lessons to learn the cello and electric bass. So, I like playing music and singing. At home, I am active in the youth work of the parish, I sing in the choir, and I live stream the mass as part of a team. I like taking pictures and working with technical equipment.

My first contact with the Salesians was through the Salesian Sisters, because I first applied to be a volunteer with an organisation that is handled by the Salesian Sisters. They offered that I come to Savio House.

So these are the 5 volunteers, coming from all across Europe. In the community there is also; Fr Martin, Fr Michael, and, the team leader, Grace, all from the UK. There is Fr Joe from Vietnam, Fr Roman from Poland, Br Reuben from Liberia, and Br Sixtus from Nigeria. So they are a very international community spanning 3 continents.

We wish them and all of the Savio House community our prayers as they start their year of ministry working with Young People
