July is month of festivals, fun and (hopefully) sun. Just in case it rains, you can keep the young people in your life occupied by taking a look at our selection of children's books, including some activity books. Or treat yourself to a good read while relaxing in the sun.

Students come together to explore Salesian Leadership

Late last term, Salesian College Farnborough hosted the second joint workshop on Salesian Leadership for our schools in the South. The half-day event was led by Miss Alex Kent, Assistant Head at Salesian College, Fr Patrick Sherlock SDB, Chaplain, and Fr Gerry Briody SDB, Provincial (pictured).

Salesian College were very welcoming of students from Chertsey and Battersea, and made sure the gathering got off to a great start by very kindly providing everyone with a free lunch. The ice breakers led by Alex Kent were the perfect way to get students from the three schools mingling, so that by the time the real work started they were comfortable enough with each other to have meaningful discussions around leadership.

Both inputs from Fr Patrick and Fr Gerry were excellent, and especially helped Year 11 prefects focus on what it means to be a leader from a Salesian point of view. Jesus was held up as the ultimate example of an ideal leader in His role of being The Good Shepherd.

The afternoon was very productive and enabled the participating schools to educate their students outside the strict confines of an exam board syllabus. It was a workshop that caused the students to reflect deeply, indeed, it was a workshop for life!
