July is month of festivals, fun and (hopefully) sun. Just in case it rains, you can keep the young people in your life occupied by taking a look at our selection of children's books, including some activity books. Or treat yourself to a good read while relaxing in the sun.

Bootle's 'Good Samaritans' are a credit to their school

Savio Salesian College chaplain, Fr Jakub Ruszniak SDB, is rightly very proud of their caring students, and so are we! Above: the six young people with Headteacher Mr Costello.

This week we here at Savio we have had a call from a lady whose 89-year old mum lives in Ennerdale Drive. She had a fall putting out her bin and a group of pupils from our school came over and helped her up, took her indoors and checked she was OK.

They then returned on their way home to check on her again and took her a little present, which made her day. The lady and her daughter were very grateful and delighted.

The "random act of kindness" has been acknowledged in the local media. BBC Radio Merseyside came to school to interview the six students who helped the lady. Their interview will soon be published on Tony Snell's show.
