July is month of festivals, fun and (hopefully) sun. Just in case it rains, you can keep the young people in your life occupied by taking a look at our selection of children's books, including some activity books. Or treat yourself to a good read while relaxing in the sun.

Mizen Foundation's "Talk for Change" at Chertsey

On Wednesday July 10th 2019, Year 10s attended a Talk For Change in the new St Patrick's Exam Hall at Guildford Road, Chertsey. The key speakers from the Mizen Foundation were none other than Margaret Mizen and her son Danny Mizen, the mother and brother of murdered teenager Jimmy Mizen who was killed in 2008.

The first part of the talk was led by Margaret Mizen, who spent time narrating the joy of Jimmy's young life, his untimely death and the impact that this has had on his family and the wider community. Margaret also spoke with passion and conviction of the role of her Catholic Faith in sustaining and comforting her and her family.

The second part of the talk, led by Danny Mizen, picked up on the theme outlined by Margaret, viz. the message of forgiveness, hope and peace for all young people. Year 10s pupils heard the message that there are no bad young people, just bad choices. Pupils were invited to reflect upon this message and the consequences that their actions have on others. This message was also repeated in the afternoon at Highfield Road for the Year 12 students.

Particular thanks go to the Premises Team, Mr Browne, Mr Bryce, Mr Gower, Mr Bruynseels and Year 10 teachers from RE and Maths for attending and supervising this talk.
