July is month of festivals, fun and (hopefully) sun. Just in case it rains, you can keep the young people in your life occupied by taking a look at our selection of children's books, including some activity books. Or treat yourself to a good read while relaxing in the sun.

Bootle Yr 11s walk "in the footsteps of Don Bosco"

Chaplain Fr Jakub SDB accompanied students from Savio Salesian College on a special pilgrimage last week

Among other things, my hope is always that Chaplaincy provides an opportunity for the young people to meet with Don Bosco. In the course of the year pupils make dramas based on his life, draw pictures, learn Salesian songs. But there's nothing quite like experiencing the very places were Don Bosco lived and where our Salesian story began. That's why last week we've prepared something very special for a group of Y11s from our chaplaincy group - a pilgrimage to Turin.

Watch the video of the pilgrimage

Following in the footsteps of Don Bosco, we have visited all the special places which mark his childhood and later years. We have celebrated Masses at Valdocco and Becchi (Colle Don Bosco), seen the first Oratory, ate a lot of Italian food and concluded with a day spent at the beach. The young people were full of enthusiasm and eager to learn.

We hope that the few days spent in Italy will be encouraging for them as they continue to journey with the Salesians.

St John Bosco, pray for us!
