July is month of festivals, fun and (hopefully) sun. Just in case it rains, you can keep the young people in your life occupied by taking a look at our selection of children's books, including some activity books. Or treat yourself to a good read while relaxing in the sun.

Fr Jakub and the Savio Salesian College Chaplaincy team have been on retreat with the Year 10 students, by the sea at Formby.

What does it mean to be a child of God? What do we actually mean by saying that humans are created “in the image and likeness of God?”. That was the topic of Y10 retreats at Savio Salesian College this year.

Three groups of students made a trip to St Joseph’s, Formby, to spend a day of reflection, fun activities, games and prayers. The purpose was to pause for a moment a think about how special and important we are in the eyes of God.

It was lovely to see the students making their own reflections and sharing thoughts. A part of the day brought into focus the theme of gratefulness. Students were invited to write a letter to a member of staff, expressing their gratefulness for help, attention and support they received in school.

We were blessed with a beautiful weather, so each day the retreats taken place, we were able to go for a walk or play a game of football in the field, which made the retreats even more enjoyable. We wish all the best to our Y10s and may they always remember their great value and dignity!
