July is month of festivals, fun and (hopefully) sun. Just in case it rains, you can keep the young people in your life occupied by taking a look at our selection of children's books, including some activity books. Or treat yourself to a good read while relaxing in the sun.

Spiritual reading for Lent

Lent isn't just about giving things up. It's a fruitful time to develop our spiritual practices, or begin new habits of prayer and study. A well-chosen book or two can be of great assistance in this, and Don Bosco Publications has a range of titles suited to the season.

Two books from Fr Michael Winstanley SDB are valuable companions for those who want to deepen their faith and understanding during Lent. Lenten Sundays surveys the Sunday Gospels from all three Liturgical Cycles, looking at the historical context, the essence of each story, and how it fits into the life of Jesus, and how we can apply its message in our lives today. His latest book, Alive!, steps beyond Lent and explores the resurrection narratives, preparing us to welcome the risen Christ by grasping what it is to be fully 'alive' as Christians.

We also have books to enrich the Lenten experience of children and young people. Our Swatch Journey Through Lent is a prayer resource book for young people, containing a range of activities and simple reflections which can be used in groups and families, or individually. The Life of Jesus: A Colouring Book is a way of helping small children engage with the stories of the passion and resurrection in an age-appropriate manner.
