July is month of festivals, fun and (hopefully) sun. Just in case it rains, you can keep the young people in your life occupied by taking a look at our selection of children's books, including some activity books. Or treat yourself to a good read while relaxing in the sun.

Salesian volunteer helps with Kit for Africa

Football-mad kids in Tanzania were delighted to be togged-out in Bolton Wanderers' kit, which was generously donated by fans, in a 'Kits for Africa' campaign supported by Salesian Cooperator and former BOVA volunteer, Paul Barnes, who helps with the youth group in the parish at Arusha when he is the country. Paul was involved in collecting donated kits, and on his last trip to Tanzania, helped distribute 150 donated shirts. The parish priest, Fr Dennis, received a full set of kit for the youth group's football team.

The campaign was begun by Danny Thomas, a British PE teacher who works in Dubai, after he visited Arusha on a school trip in 2015, and it was supported and promoted by the Bolton Wanderers' club. Paul saw Danny's article in a matchday programme, and contacted him to offer his help. He spent many a matchday at the ground, collecting donated items, and was able to coordinate the Tanzania side of the campaign. Many away fans also donated items of kit. Danny and Paul also began a fund for donations to help get the kits to Tanzania, which was also well-supported.

Paul and Danny met up in Arusha to present the kits in February.
