July is month of festivals, fun and (hopefully) sun. Just in case it rains, you can keep the young people in your life occupied by taking a look at our selection of children's books, including some activity books. Or treat yourself to a good read while relaxing in the sun.

Formal opening of Devereux Centre at St John Bosco College

The new Devereux resource base for pupils with Autism and mental health needs, the first of its kind in Wandsworth, was formally opened on 15th January 2019, by Mrs Maureen Devereux, pictured above with Headteacher Paul Dunne.

The centre was named in honour of her son Sean, a former Salesian student, teacher and volunteer, who was murdered in in Kismayo, Somalia in January 1993, at the age of 28, while working for UNICEF. Sean is an important role model and inspiration for the Salesian family.

The school says, 'The centre is a targeted specialist resource base provision for young people who have an Education Health and Care Plan specifying Autistic Spectrum Disorder or Social Communication Disorder needs as a prime need, and who have complex mental health needs including high levels of anxiety, eating disorders, phobias or self-harming behaviours.

'The strong, caring and inclusive ethos of our Catholic school as well as its relatively small size will provide robust pastoral care and support for students with such needs.'
