The Next Step Day at Savio Salesian College, Bootle, aims to prepare students for life beyond school, and this year, two past pupils went along to help. Hayley Caruana who left Savio in 1996 and Michael Brierley who left in 1998, returned to join a team conducting mock interviews to help current students hone their skills.
Fourteen representatives from different types of employment attended , and every Year 11 student took part in workshops on Apprenticeships and were guided through the process of registering on the Apprenticeship website, as well as learning about the different type of apprenticeships from Jan Agger of GMLPF. They were then put through their CV paces by Valerie Jones from The Work Outfit, in a CV Bootcamp with information and guidance on how to compile a CV and how best to present yourself in the workplace.
The school said, "It's always great to see former students, even better when they return to help out our current students! We would like to thank all of our visitors for attending our Next Step Day and brilliantly helping our students. Using this guidance and information, our students are now well informed on what path they need to follow to obtain the career of their choice."
