On 2nd January 1993, Sean Devereux was assassinated in Kismayo, Somalia. He was 28 years old. Today, we pray for him, for his family, and for all those who risk their lives to help others.

Sean was a Salesian Cooperator - a lay person who makes a commitment to support the weldare of young people, guided by the spirit of Don Bosco. He studied at Salesian College, Farnborough, and after university, taught PE at Salesian School, Chertsey, before answering a call he had long felt to missionary work in Africa, where he taught at the Salesian school in Tappita, Liberia.

When the war changed everything, Sean volunteered to work with the UN, and was working for UNICEF when he was shot dead by a hired gunman. His passion for helping the children of Africa was continued by hus family, through the Sean Devereux Children's Fund, and he lives on in this work, and in the hearts of all whose lives he touched. His example of faith, compassion, integrity and fun is a model to all of us - the young especially.

In commemoration of the 25th anniversary of Sean's death, Don Bosco Publications has produced a new Pocketbook, collecting memories of and tributes to this inspiring young man. Articles have been contributed by Sean's mother and his two sisters, and by some of his many friends and colleagues.
