July is month of festivals, fun and (hopefully) sun. Just in case it rains, you can keep the young people in your life occupied by taking a look at our selection of children's books, including some activity books. Or treat yourself to a good read while relaxing in the sun.

Vides UK's Half-term Hangout for Year 4-6 children was all about rights and justice.

Held near the Vides base in Croxteth, Liverpool, "Rights Here, Right Now!" began by introducing young people to the rights they have, and how they can exercise and protect them.

From this starting point, they explored the concept of justice, to see how we can use our thoughts, words and actions to treat others fairly. They worked together on activities like the Banana Split Game, where they role-played different interest groups in the banana trade, delivering some fantastic pitches to set out how much they ought to be paid for their part the industry. As a result, they learnt how Fair Trade works and the benefits it delivers to different groups of people.

The children went on to think about what freedom means, and about all those across the world who can't access their right to freedom.

Learning about human rights and peace was an important element of the Hangout, as the young people looked at ways we can build bridges between people who have differences with each other, and create "little chains of peace" instead of building walls to keep out people we don't understand.

While they learned a great deal about social justice and their own rights, the young people also had a fun-filled Hangout. Great work, Vides UK!
