Salesian Chertsey spend a day at Calais refugee operation

Fr Kevin O'Donnell SDB describes a recent visit to Calais, to help in a warehouse storing supplies for refugees.
On Saturday 11th November, nine of us from Salesian Chertsey went to Calais to help out in the huge warehouse there which supplies basic materials to the many hundreds of refugees still encamped around Calais to stop them dying of the cold or hunger.
These are the people that officially do not exist, so there is no state support for them.
The warehouse stores, sorts and organises donations of food, clothes and equipment, and it is staffed by many volunteers, who give whatever time they have, from a long-term commitment to a day, or a few hours.
It was a long day for us - starting at 5 am - and a busy day, but one full of the joy of working together and meeting many special people.
