Jonathan Wright, a 6th Form student at Thornleigh Salesian College, has won a national award recognising his inspiring work in the school and wider community to improve lives. The College tells his story:

For some time now, The Diana Award has enabled and supported thousands of young people to take positive action, by getting involved in their local communities. This award recognises their hard work, dedication and commitment to bring about change.

Earlier this year, we nominated Jonathan Wright, who was at that time, a student in Year 12 at Thornleigh Salesian College Sixth Form. Over the years, Jonathan has had a huge impact on the growth and effectiveness of our School Council. He has led campaigns on anti-bullying, recycling, reducing litter and healthy eating, to name but a few. In 2016, he was elected as Bolton's Youth MP, leading campaigns on improving mental health services for the young and raising awareness of mental health issues amongst the young with his campaign, "Be Kind to my Mind."

Just before the end of the summer term, we learnt that Jonathan's work, within the local community and here at Thornleigh, had been recognised with a Diana Award. The ceremony was held at the Leeds College of Music on November 9th.

The young role models from around the world are honoured with this award for selflessly transforming the lives of others. They are going above and beyond in their daily lives to create and sustain positive change"
