July is month of festivals, fun and (hopefully) sun. Just in case it rains, you can keep the young people in your life occupied by taking a look at our selection of children's books, including some activity books. Or treat yourself to a good read while relaxing in the sun.

Come to the Water' - Mission Week at Thornleigh College

'Come to the Water' (Isaiah 55:1) was the theme for this year's Mission Week at Thornleigh Salesian College Bolton. Students explored how God is calling us to come together as one community to make a difference and reach out to those in need.

Each one of us is called by God for a different reason, but we are essentially all called to make a difference to our world. The week aimed to heighten students awareness of the fact that not everyone is as well off as we are, and that some people have to journey far just to hope for what we have.

The week began with a powerful assembly by students, centred around a real boat, reminding everyone of the desperate people who make dangerous journeys to escape danger and seek a better life.

The week included talks from Cafod, Pax Christi, Savio House. Barry and Margaret Mizzen, whose son was tragically murdered in 2008, gave an extremely powerful talk on forgiveness and strength of faith.

The students also took part in farming activities, a refugee experience, water challenges and a chance to meet and learn about guide dogs.

Isaiah 55:1 New International Version UK (NIVUK)

Come, all you who are thirsty,
come to the waters;
and you who have no money,
come, buy and eat!
Come, buy wine and milk
without money and without cost.
