July is month of festivals, fun and (hopefully) sun. Just in case it rains, you can keep the young people in your life occupied by taking a look at our selection of children's books, including some activity books. Or treat yourself to a good read while relaxing in the sun.

VIDES UK embarked on a new Scottish adventure at the end of July, with the opening of the first of the 2017 summer camps in Paisley.

Volunteers arrived early for a final period of preparation to make sure everyone and everything was well and truly ready for a successful and hectic week. At an evening gathering, the team met some of the young people who would be attending, along with their families, and were delighted that Provost Cameron, councillor for Paisley South West. and the Provost of Renfrewshire, came along to show her support for the project.

The following morning, the volunteers were raring to go and everything was set for "a week full of fun, love and laughter" as the young people arrived. In addition to day trips, including a visit to Ayr, the children took part in arts and crafts (where Br Ste accidentally decorated the floor with 1000 loom bands!) and activities exploring community and the importance of building good relationships with those close to us and those in other parts of the world.

The team was glad of hospitality provided by Sr Bernie and friends, which gave them the opportunity to relax after their busy day, enjoying some fun and each other's company.

When the week ended, the volunteers created a brilliant memento starring in their own music video of the Friends theme. Click the image below to watch:

Here's a last word on the first camp from VIDES: "A massive thank you to each and every one of our volunteers that were involved in the planning, preparation and delivery of camp this year, it was spectacular! The children loved it and the local community are already looking forward to our return in 2018."

Please help to grow the VIDES UK project by letting people know about their opportunities and activities. If you or anybody you know would like to know more about their work and how to get involved, visit the VIDES UK website
