July is month of festivals, fun and (hopefully) sun. Just in case it rains, you can keep the young people in your life occupied by taking a look at our selection of children's books, including some activity books. Or treat yourself to a good read while relaxing in the sun.

Signposts at the Brightlights Festival

A new version of the Salesians' Signposts project, which equips young adults for making life-choices, has been created for use in parishes. Fr Jakub Rusniak and Fr David O'Malley took the new workshops to the national "Brightlights Festival at Alton Castle in Staffordshire on the weekend of June 23rd. Here's what they said about the event:

At Brightlights, we were able to promote a new approach to raising vocational awareness in parishes through the workshops at the weekend.

One of the openings we used to introduce the Signposts project was to gather people's thoughts on "what do you need to do before you die?". This strange question is designed to open up a conversation about meaning and purpose in life. What struck me about the answers was the great generosity of young adults in giving their lives to others and a huge concern to live with integrity. For many at the festival this meant modelling their lives on Jesus and following the the simple guidelines of the Gospel.

There were great moments in the festival with Rise theatre, Fr Frankie Mulgrew, Bishop Bernard Longley, The One Hope Project and much more. The festival stands as another sign of hope that young adults are ready to take responsibility for the Gospel and to become the next generation of Catholic leaders.

The original Signposts project for young adults continues, with weekends in Cheshire in July and in London in August. Visit the Signposts website for more information.
