Savio House, our Youth Retreat Centre in Bollington, Cheshire, recently facilitated a retreat for a group of 27 Year 10 students from the Academy of St Francis of Assisi, a Catholic-Anglican school in Liverpool.
The Savio team created a programme for the group that accommodated their different faith backgrounds, and incorporated music, games and the arts. The theme of water was used to stimulate reflections on what goes on beneath the surface of our lives. As the Academy specialises in sustainability and the environment, both the theme and the rural setting were highly relevant to the group.
The students enjoyed their stay in the countryside, which included a hike to White Nancy, a local landmark commemorating the Napoleonic Wars, at the top of a hill overlooking the house.
The three day retreat gave students and the staff who accompanied them the time, space and tools to explore the part that faith plays in their lives. The visit was ended in a Mass to celebrate and reflect on the retreat.
This was the Academy's first visit to Savio House, and they are looking forward to planning more retreats with the Savio team in the future.
