July is month of festivals, fun and (hopefully) sun. Just in case it rains, you can keep the young people in your life occupied by taking a look at our selection of children's books, including some activity books. Or treat yourself to a good read while relaxing in the sun.

Chertsey's Fairtrade Bake Sale raises funds for charities

Once again, pupils, students and staff have done Salesian School Chertsey proud during Fairtrade Fortnight. This annual event takes place all around the UK, raising awareness of the poverty of many producers and food growers in the developing world. We recognise how the Fairtrade Foundation, together with Traidcraft, aims to alleviate poverty through just and fair trading arrangements, pricing and the awarding of the Fairtrade Premium, allowing farmers to re-invest in their production lines, or in education and social projects.

I am delighted to announce that the Bake Sale last week raised over £177. This money will be divided three ways between the Fairtrade Foundation, Rethink Mental Health and The Samaritans, three exceptionally worthy charities. Many thanks to Ms. Crabb, (who is running the Marathon for Rethink Mental Health) and Mr. Ryan (who is running a half-marathon for the Samaritans), the Fairtrade Team and all who supported the sale in any way.
