July is month of festivals, fun and (hopefully) sun. Just in case it rains, you can keep the young people in your life occupied by taking a look at our selection of children's books, including some activity books. Or treat yourself to a good read while relaxing in the sun.

Don Bosco Day Celebrations in the North West

There were many celebrations for the feast of St John Bosco. Here are two accounts from Manchester and Bootle

Bootle

We had a wonderful celebration of St John Bosco here in St James, Bootle. Here are just a few shots taken by John McCormick-ace photographer, catechist, driver, Youth Active Team, Schools' Team.....thanks John...great job. Thanks to the parish for a worthy celebration. Well done SVP for gaining 2015 DON BOSCO AWARD. Thanks to servers, music group and the wonderful readers from Year 5 at All Saints. Big thanks to Charlotte from Savio Salesian College Year 10 for singing, Victoria Lyon and the wonderful Wednesday Dancers, the Brownies, and to Sue McCormick for 25 wonderful years of service and Salesian care. To Marie Savin and the outstanding catering crew with Rita Shannon's cake for our refreshments at the end of mass, not forgetting the inspirational homily preached by Mike Bennett (Head of Transition and Religious Education) on Catholic Education on this Education Sunday ....in all a fantastic celebration of the Eucharist. How lucky am I to be in St James, Bootle!!!

Manchester

As has been the way for the past 7 or 8 years now, Salesians from far and wide came together in Manchester for Mass at the Hidden Gem. After having a small chance to catch up with one another before Mass, we got inside to the warmth of the church. We were led in Mass by Fr Bob Gardner, who had recently returned from a trip to Gibraltar. Which he let us all know about in his homily. As usual it was a great time to share our Salesian spirituality with the people of Manchester. After we let Manchester know who was the 'Friend of the Young' we gathered outside in the cold once again to block the exit of the chapel for our group photo before retiring for lunch and the afternoons social activities.
