Our Privacy and Cookies Policy
The Salesians of Don Bosco in the UK value the trust and confidence you place in us, when you visit our website, buy books from Don Bosco Publications, make donations to support our work, or subscribe to our e-news and magazine. This policy is about how we demonstrate that by respecting and protecting your privacy.
It tells you what information we collect about you, why we need it, what we do with it, and how you can access or remove any personal information we hold about you.
Website Cookies and Google Analytics -
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files places that websites place on your computer or device when you visit them. Some are essential to the working and security of the site, and others are important but not essential. You can choose whether or not to accept these non-essential cookies.
What types of cookies do we use?
We limit the use of cookies to those we believe are necessary for us to run a good website, offering visitors the sort of content they want, and making their visit as smooth and convenient as possible. We place the cookies on our site ourselves - there are no âthird partyâ cookies set by other organisations or advertisers on our site.
Why do we use them?
Operation and security: Session cookies last for the duration of your visit to our site, and are essential to the working of the site, and to protect our site and or visitors.
Statistics: We use analytics cookies through the Google Analytics service, to give us information such as how you found our site, whether you are a new or returning visitor, which pages you visited, what sort of device and browser you used, and the geographic location you visited from. This information does not identify you personally, but it gives us an idea of how effective our site is in meeting our visitorsâ needs, and providing the kind of content they want. Mailing Lists - email
If you register for any of our e-news lists, we collect your name and email address, as these are essential to providing the service you are signing up to. We do not sell, trade or otherwise share our email lists with any other organisation.
To deliver our email, we use the Constant Contact platform. This also provides us with reports to help us improve our service, with information on opens and clicks in each email we send. Every email includes links to allow you to change your preferences to opt in or out of particular lists, and to unsubscribe from all emails in future. You can do this at any time, on any day. If you unsubscribe, you donât have to tell us why, but it would help us to improve our service in future if you gave us that information. Each year, we ask subscribers to confirm their permission to receive emails from us, or to unsubscribe, or to change their preferences.

Magazine Mailing List - by post
Don Bosco Today, our free magazine, is posted out to subscribers 3 times a year, with a free calendar included in the winter mailing. If you subscribe, we ask for your full name and postal address. This information is kept securely on our database. We work in partnership with our printer, Jump Design and Print, who handle the physical mailing operation. This means we send the latest encrypted version of our mailing list to them, but it is used by them solely for the purpose of delivering the magazines. You can contact us by phone, letter or email at any time to ask us to remove you from the magazine mailing list.
Don Bosco Publications Online Shop
If you order books from the online shop on our website, we ask that you register to create an account to increase your security. The registration form asks only for the information we need to send your books out to you â your full name, postal address, a phone number and email address in case we need to contact you about your order or delivery. You can ask us at any time to delete your registration information, by emailing publications@salesians.org.uk or phoning 01204 308811. If your account is dormant for over 12 months, we will delete your information.
We use the PayPal platform to process your payment securely. You do not need a PayPal account, and can also pay by debit or credit card. PayPal processes your transaction on our behalf, and we do not see, access or store your card or PayPal account details. PayPal Privacy Statement.
Payments for books ordered and paid for over the phone are processed in accordance with GDPR, and are PCI compliant. Your card details are entered directly into our terminal by our trained staff while you are on the line. We make no record of your card details, which are securely processed by WorldPay.
We are obliged by law to keep accounts and sales records. The information we process for our accounts is held securely in accordance with current data protection legislation, and is not used for any other purpose.
Donations
We are very grateful for your donations to support our work. The online donations portal we use on our website is Charity Checkout, and they process donations and Gift Aid on our behalf. We do not see, access or store your card details. Charity Checkout gives you the option of making your donation anonymously, or providing your name and address, and your permission for us to contact you. We use this to send you a thank-you letter. Donations sent by cheque in the post are processed by our staff in line with data protection and our own financial process rules, and if an address is included, we use that only to send our sincere thanks.
You may prefer to donate using a debit or credit card over the phone. These donations are processed by our trained staff in the same way as telephone payments for books â see above.
We are obliged by law to keep information about all donations and Gift Aid for our financial records. In the case of Gift Aid, your information much be kept for 6 years following the expiry or cancellation of your Gift Aid declaration. This information is kept securely, and is only accessed by authorised staff and our auditors, and for Gift Aid, HMCR.
We do not use your contact details to solicit further donations, or for marketing purposes.
Your right to access your personal information

Changes to this Privacy Notice
We review our privacy policy regularly, and always when there is a change in legislation, or in any of the suppliers or processes we use.
This policy was revised on 8th May 2018, and will be reviewed regularly to enable us to ensure that links in this policy are up to date.
