In 1872 the first group of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (Salesian Sisters) made their profession in the Congregation founded by St. John Bosco and St. Mary Mazzarello. Both founders shared a dream to work for the good of young people and lead them to God.

Don Bosco wanted the Sisters to be a living sign of his gratitude to God for all that he had led him to be and do in his life. Our Lady continues to guide her Sisters today.

Mary Mazzarello offered opportunities to the young girls of her home village, a sewing workshop, boarding school, religion classes and a home... all this offered with the desire to bring these young girls to the happiness of knowing Jesus.

Today the Sisters number 13,500, and are present in 93 countries in the world; still with the same love and enthusiasm for young people which was so strong in the first Sisters in the little village of Mornese, where we were founded in 1872.

By their lives the Sisters witness the words of Jesus, "Whatever you do to the least of my people, you do to me." St. Mary Mazzarello said, "Joy is the sign of a heart that loves the Lord!" Her Sisters live by this motto today.

What do we do?

St. Mary Mazzarello felt that Our Lady had entrusted the young women of her village to her so she was creative in her ministry.

Following in the footsteps of St. John Bosco and St. Mary Mazzarello the Salesian Sisters continue to creatively minister to young people today in:
