July is month of festivals, fun and (hopefully) sun. Just in case it rains, you can keep the young people in your life occupied by taking a look at our selection of children's books, including some activity books. Or treat yourself to a good read while relaxing in the sun.

Working with Asylum Seekers in Liverpool

Posted: Thu, 24 May 2012

For the last few years, since coming to Liverpool the Salesian Sisters Community at Mansion Drive, Sr. Esther Murphy FMA has been volunteering once a week at MRANG; Merseyside Refugee and Asylum Seekers Pre and Post Natal Support Group. This group aims to provide a loving family environment where pre and post natal refugees and asylum seekers can receive practical, holistic and effective support, helped by Nugent Care.

The group helps rape victims, rape babies and trafficked victims among the many women seeking papers to remain with their families in Britain. During this last year the group has welcomed just over 100 new members from various parts of Africa, China, and Trinidad and Tobago. The group faces many difficulties, but with the friendship and support received as well as the love of many volunteers like Sr. Esther, much good is done for women who have suffered more than any of us could ever imagine.
