July is month of festivals, fun and (hopefully) sun. Just in case it rains, you can keep the young people in your life occupied by taking a look at our selection of children's books, including some activity books. Or treat yourself to a good read while relaxing in the sun.

Golden Jubilees

Fr Sean Murray SDB celebrated his Golden Jubilee as priest with a special mass in St James' Bootle on Sunday 18th of March 2012.

The mass was concelebrated by Fr Martin Coyle, Salesian Provincial, as well as priests and brothers from the Bootle Community and Salesian priests from Communities throughout the country. A reception was held in Bootle cricket club where the entertainment was provided by young Salesian volunteers.

Thanks to John McCormick, a parishioner at St James', for the photo and report.

Fr Aidan Murray SDB celebrated his Golden Jubilee on 17th March in the church of Our Lady of Lourdes, Newent, where he has been Parish Priest since 1994.

After Mass there was a reception in the parish hall, including 'This is your Life' - a look back at Fr Aidan's long Salesian life with tributes from many who remembered him with gratitude. Cakes decorated with the face of Don Bosco were shared at the end of the evening.

On Pentecost Sunday, 27th May, Fr Merriman celebrated in the Parish of St Dominic in Huyton, where he had been Parish Priest from 1985 to 1992. Family members and former pupils swelled the usual congregation. His sister, Dr Anne Merriman, founder of Hospice Africa, read the first reading, and other relatives led the music group animating the liturgy. At the buffet which followed the Mass Fr Merriman was presented with a cheque to be divided between Hospice Africa and BOVA, the Salesian Volunteering Organisation.
