July is month of festivals, fun and (hopefully) sun. Just in case it rains, you can keep the young people in your life occupied by taking a look at our selection of children's books, including some activity books. Or treat yourself to a good read while relaxing in the sun.

Jubilees

Every year the Province celebrates significant Jubilees of profession and ordination for Salesian brothers and priests.

Br Donald MacDonald celebrated his 60th anniversary of Religious Profession in Bolton on 10th September 2011. Br Donald was born not far from Scotland's highest mountain, Ben Nevis. He used his trade and teaching skills in Salesian schools in Scotland and England and was also a missionary for many years in Liberia and Ghana. His celebration brought together many of those whose lives he has touched through his work and his legendary hospitality.

On 5th September the Farnborough community celebrated the 75th anniversary of Br Alan Garman's Profession. Bro Alan spent most of his Salesian life, 50 years, in Blaisdon, and is remembered with great affection by many of the past pupils of the school. Since then he has been part of the Community in Farnborough in active retirement.

July 2011 began with jubilee celebrations for four of our Salesian priests in the GBR province.

On Friday 1st July the Farnborough community celebrated the 60th anniversary of ordination of Fr Charles Chauvel, who flew over from Guernsey for the occasion, and the 50th anniversaries of ordination of Fr Brendan McGuinness and Fr Italo Thomann, who are residents of St John Bosco House, Farnborough.

On the following Sunday, at Huyton in Merseyside, Fr Peter Dooley celebrated his 50th anniversary of ordination in the parish Church of St Dominic, where he has been assistant priest for the past 11 years.

All the jubilarians have spent long years in priestly ministry in Salesian schools and parishes and are still actively engaged in Don Bosco's work as far as their health and energy permit.

Thanks to Br Michael Delmer and Fr George Robson for sending the photographs.
