Thornleigh Pupil in Downing Street
Posted: Fri, 1 Jan 2010
Zoe Cook, a pupil from the Fairtrade Group at Thornleigh Salesian College Bolton, was invited to Number Ten Downing Street to help celebrate the fifteenth year of the Fairtrade logo. Zoe was asked because she is also fifteen years old and the event was a reminder of those very important years of development for Zoe and for the Fairtrade Foundation.

Pictured above are (l to r) Justino Peck from Belize (one of first producers to sell his cocoa as Fairtrade), Harry Hill (the famous comedian), Sarah Brown, Zoe Cooke (Thornleigh College, Bolton), and two other 15 year old pupils from other schools. The cake is, of course, made from fairly traded chocolate!
Mrs Sarah Brown, wife of the Prime Minister, hosted the event. It was designed to build the profile of Fairtrade which has recently drawn Cadbury into its network of producers following Fairtrade policies. The Thornleigh Fairtrade group works with Justicia Shop in Bolton, the Fairtrade Foundation and the Bolton Sustainability Network as well as being the hub school for Fairtrade in Bolton.
