July is month of festivals, fun and (hopefully) sun. Just in case it rains, you can keep the young people in your life occupied by taking a look at our selection of children's books, including some activity books. Or treat yourself to a good read while relaxing in the sun.

Student Voice at Savio House

Twenty six student representatives from Salesian Schools in Great Britain met at Savio House from 5th to 7th December 2008 for the third Student Voice conference.

There were seven sessions:

  1. Sharing what we do in our Schools
  2. Ideas for Development
  3. Qualities of a Good Leader
  4. Video on Battersea's Turin visit, June 2008
  5. What will we take back to our Schools?
  6. Our Commitment to Leadership and Service
  7. Presentation on Volunteers and BOVA

Since the conference, the students have already put several of their ideas into action. They have circulated a video message to all the schools, in which they speak of the importance of the Feast of Don Bosco. They have produced posters and spoken to other students on the message of Salesian unity, and they have improved communications between students in the various Salesian Schools.

The students are hoping to launch a printed newsletter before Easter. They are planning further meetings, including one during the visit of students from the Agnelli Salesian School in Turin (February 25th). They hope to organise meetings of Student Voice representatives after they leave Salesian Schools. They are also very enthusiastic about organising further visits to Turin and Colle Don Bosco, and are hoping for a pilgrimage in perhaps two years' time involving students from all the Salesian Schools in the Great Britain Province.

The organisers of the Student Voice conference were Fr James Gallagher SDB, Schools Adviser for Shrewsbury Diocese, and Mr Kevin Reagan, Assistant Headteacher at Salesian College Battersea.
