July is month of festivals, fun and (hopefully) sun. Just in case it rains, you can keep the young people in your life occupied by taking a look at our selection of children's books, including some activity books. Or treat yourself to a good read while relaxing in the sun.

Great News for Savio High

The school in winter

Congratulations to Savio High School, Bootle on gaining Specialist School status! The Secretary of State for Education has announced that Savio High School will become a Specialist School for Business and Enterprise. Special thanks must go to both Fr Frank Mageean SDB and Fr Gerry Briody SDB; as Headteachers they were able to steer Savio's bid through a very complicated process. However, both would want to thank all staff, especially Mr Colin Dunne, for their hard work and dedication throughout the bid. SDB Trustees were the very first sponsors of the bid, but the school is indebted to Alliance and Leicester Bank for their generous sponsorship, encouragement and support.

The specialist status will bring new benefits not only to Savio High School, but also to the communities that we serve.

Together with the successful Targeted Capital Funding bid for a new Community Primary School in our parish at St James, we have every reason to be confident about the future of the Salesian mission here in the Bootle area.
