That small town where the Salesians had first arrived forty years earlier would become the focus of the Nazis' persecution of Polish Catholics, and synonymous with the events of the war—Auschwitz. Twenty-two Salesian priests and brothers were sent to the extermination camp between 1940 and 1942. The few that survived went on to be incarcerated in other camps including Mauthausen, Neuengamme and Dachau. When peace finally came to Poland, only six of them had survived. This book tells the story of all of these Salesian martyrs of Auschwitz.
