This collection of reflections by Australian Salesian Francis Moloney was inspired by the bicentenary of Don Bosco's birth, and provides both historical context and thoughts on contemporary evangelisation and religious consecration.
The book opens with three reflections focused on Don Bosco himself, setting out the background to the Salesian charism, examining the Saint's work in providing opportunities for young people to become 'honest citizens and good Christians', and understanding the charism through the motif of the Good Shepherd.
Moloney goes on to explore the areas of poverty, chastity and obedience, reflecting on both the theology and practice, concluding with a survey of the 'biblical imprint' of Mary which guides Salesian devotion to her.
While the book makes close reference to all things Salesian, it is directed to all religious and will also be of interest to lay people.
Francis J Moloney writes with the experience of 55 years of religious life. He joined the SDB in his native Australia in 1960, was awarded a DPhil from the University of Oxford in 1976, and has a wide range of teaching and research experience gained across several continents.
